KATHMANDU, Sept 24: McDowell´s Whisky, a product of United Spirits Nepal Private Limited has been added in the list of title sponsor of top tier Nepali football clubs. Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) on Monday formally announced the title sponsorship signing with McDowell´s.
As the title sponsor, McDowell´s will provide Rs 1 million to RCT and the club will henceforth be officially named McDowell´s No 1 RCT Club.
The deal is valid for one year. The club will also wear the jersey with McDowell´s logo in all tournament it plays.
RCT President Bijay Narayan Manandhar expressed gratitude for the association with McDowell´s. "We are happy to have McDowell´s as our sponsor and we are confident that the association will help us to excel to greater heights," Manandhar said during the announcement ceremony. "The club had achieved great success some 15 years earlier and Bagpiper was the sponsor of the team. With the sponsorship signing we hope to have achieve our past glory."
"The sponsorship amount is not big but we hope for long and strong association with McDowell´s," Manandhar said.
Speaking on the occasion, Alokesh Banerjee, the AVP marketing of United Spirits RPC said, "This is a great step we have taken and we want to raise the standard and level of the team with our association."
"The amount does not stop here and we would like to encourage the team to do better. If the club climbs the chart we will come up with three years plan," said Benerjee
Clarifying the reason behind choosing RCT and football, Banerjee said, "United Spirit globally supports sports and football in particular. We take promising and potential football club and we found RCT as a team with great potential"
McDowell´s is also the sponsor of the I-League Club Mohun Bagan and had initiated steps to bring the Indian club to play a friendly football match with Nepal Police Club earlier this year.
Banerjee also revealed that the company had long-term plans of talent hunt and identification of youngsters through district wide talent contest. Benerjee was also open to the possibility of talent exchange with Indian teams.
Meanwhile, the new jersey of the club was handed over to its captain Dilip Chhetri during the function.
RCT, the Kathmandu based club was established in 2025 BS and has won Mahendra Gold Cup and National League in the past. RCT is the six time national league champion. In the ongoing Ncell Cup RCT has won its first match against Mahindra Bansbari FC and is scheduled to play against CMG Club Sankata on Wednesday.
