SANKHUWASABHA, Oct. 2: Five bodies have been found in the slush in the Dhunpa stream at Dhupu VDC in the district. The flooded stream has triggered landslide at the village at 11 p.m. on Monday.

Those killed in the landslide are Purna Rai, Bimala Rai, 12-year-old Pratap Rai and two-year-old Samara Rai of Tallo Jyamire in Dhunpu-2 while another victim has not been identified.

Two people who sustained injuries in the incident have been rescued and taken to the District Hospital at Khandbari, it is stated.

The landslide has washed away 22 houses in the entire Village Development Committee (VDC).

Rescue work has been made difficult as the landslide continues. It has become extremely difficult to rescue the people caught up in the landslide even when they are calling for help, said Chandra Kanta Neupane, the Assistant Chief District Officer.

Nepal Police and the Nepal Army are trying to prevent further damage from the landslide but it has been difficult due to the difficult terrain.

Details on the damage caused by the landslide have not been received yet, as the landslide continues.

The landslide has washed away the bridge over the Bhotekhola stream and the settlement near the confluence of the Dhupu and the Lakhuwa streams.

The landslide is believed to have caused damage worth millions of rupees as it swept away a tractor and four motorcycles at local Barhabise Bazaar.

An under-construction cement and concrete bridge over the Sabhakhola is also said to be at imminent risk due to the landslide.
