  Chaudhary downs national champion

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: Prem Chaudhary of Nepal Army produced a sensational result Thursday in the semifinal of men´s 52 kg category of Happy Deals Nation-wide Senior Men´s and Women´s Boxing Championship being held in the capital.

Chaudhary edged past national champion of the weight category and also the participant of World Boxing Championship Sudesh Manandhar of Nepal Police. Chaudhary won the bout 6-3 to fix final date against Kabindra Maharjan of Armed Police Force (APF) who defeated Chandra Jyoti Thapa of Dang 8-6.

Bhupendra Thapa of Nepal Police has set the final date against Eak Bahadur Ghale of Army in men´s 64 kg category. Police pugilist Thapa defeated Prabin Makaju of Bhaktapur in the semifinal and Ghale edged past Bikash Lama of departmental rival Armed Police Force (APF) in the bout played at the National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur.

The 60 kg title clash will be between the Police and APF boxers. Purna Bahadur Lama defeated Army player Gopal Sunuwar while Surendra Bahadur Kathayat of Police edged past Radhe Magar of Kathmandu. In 56 kg semifinals, Ukesh Nagarkoti of APF beat Mahesh Ale Magar of Sunsari for final place; and Dinesh Shrestha of Police defeated Om Bahadur Pun of Army.

Laxman Saud of Kailali beat Kamal Khadka of Kathmandu and Bikram Pariyar of APF downed Resham Shahi of Army to secure final place in 49 kg category.

Under women´s 57 kg category, Bimala Chaudhary of Dang thrashed Pramila Rai of Sunsari 25-11 to set the final clash against Sanju Lama of APF. Nisha Tamang of Police defeated Mugamaya Pakhrin of APF and Mina Gurung of Army was declared the winner against Srijana Lama of Meghdut on the basis of RSC in the semifinals.

In 51 kg category, Maya Chaudhary of APF defeated Sunita Maharjan of Bosigaun and Prarusa Shrestha of Thankot edged past Kabuna Shrestha of same team to book place in the final.

Pramila Pandey of APF and Lalita Maharjan of Bosigaun reached the final of women´s 48 kg category. Pandey defeated Nanja Buda Magar of APF and Maharjan beat Gita Thapa of UNDC, Dang. Sarlima Lama of Bhaktapur and Diwana Serma of Police made it to the final of 45 kg category. The final will be held on Friday.
