JANAKPUR, Oct 9: A 13-year-old boy missing for nine days was found dead inside a well near his village on Monday.
Sudeep Mahato, son of Ram Prakash Mahato of Bateshwar VDC-6, had gone missing after he left home for Mahendranagar to attend the Indra Pooja religious fair on September 29.
Police have arrested three local youths on the charge of Sudeep´s murder and another accused is at large. The three arrested are Ramesh Mahato,16, Ranjeet Mahato,16, and Suresh Paswan, 21. Chandra Shekhar Paswan, brother of Suresh, is still at large.
Police suspect that Sudeep was murdered in revenge against his father for deciding a land dispute five years ago to the detriment of the Paswan family.
"Ram Prakash had spoken against the Paswan family when the case was being debated in the presence of village panchas five years ago. This had given rise to hatred and for that reason they targetted his son," said Inspector Govinda Puri, surmising on the basis of facts uncovered in preliminary investigations.
"We have come to know that the Paswan brothers even lured their neighbors Ramesh and Ranjit with money to get them involved in the murder," added Puri.
According to Puri, the Paswan brothers had first buried the body and shifted it to various other locations before finally ditching it in the well.
An autopsy shows that Sudeep was beaten up brutally with something heavy before being suffociated.
Further investigations in the case are continuing.
