  Koirala is new NEFEJ president

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The 27th annual general meeting of Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) on Friday unanimously elected a 13-member executive committee with Tirtha Koirala as its president.

Koirala is currently news and current affair chief of Kantipur Television.

The newly-elected office-bearers include Prakash Rimal as vice president, Dhurba Basnet as general secretary, Som Nath Lamichhane as secretary and Purna Hari Amatya as treasurer.

Nimesh Adhikari, Sangita Lama, Pragati Shahi, Ramesh Bhushal, Shyam Bhatt, Suresh Sharma were elected as members while Batu Krishna Upreti and Dr. Sunil Babu Shrestha were elected members from the organization´s associate members.

Similarly, the meeting also constituted a three-member accounts committee with Ramesh Kumar Khadka as convener and Ananda Kumar Shrestha and Tek Jung Mahat as members.

At the meeting held at the NEFEJ secretariat, general secretary Rajesh Ghimire presented the annual progress report while Treasurer Abdullah Minya presented the organization´s financial report.

Similarly, a foundation stone of Audio Visual Studio and Radio Sagarmatha Studio building was laid in Bhanimandal of Lalitpur on Friday.

Former Vice President of National Planning Commision Mohan Man Sainju, Founder President of NEFEJ Krishna Prasad Sigdhyal, Former President of NEFEJ Binaya Gurwacharaya and Bio Diversity Expert Dr. Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha jointly laid foundation of studio building.

Meanwhile, Gopal Jhapali, a Jhapa-based journalist, received the Environmental Journalism Award 2011, established by NEFEJ, for his continuous effort in sensitizing the issues of environmental conservation. Former Minister for Environment Ganesh Shah handed over the award to Jhapali, along with a citation and cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
