DHADING, Oct 15: Spokesperson of the UCPN (Maoist), Agni Sapkota, has said that there is a need of raising voice with unity by media persons for the implementation of the Working Journalists´ Act and not to allow the violation of press freedom and freedom of expression.
Inaugurating the first district conference of Revolutionary Journalists Association, Dhading, on Monday, Sapkota stressed that media persons should be capable of accepting the challenges as journalism is itself a challenging job.
He also said his party is committed in favour of press freedom. Recalling the role played by journalists for the establishment of federal democratic republic in the country, Sapkota said there is a need for the journalists to write for its sustainability and stability.
At the inaugural session, General Secretary of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Om Sharma, said that journalists have been victimized from big media houses and added that the FNJ has been carrying out works for making journalism sector strong and capable and for the implementation of the Working Journalists Act.
Various persons including representatives of various political parties, Chief District officer Bed Prasad Kharel, Local Development Officer Ramesh Neupane and Dhading chapter President of the FNJ, Sitaram Prasad Verma expressed their views about the role to be played by journalism sector.
