POKHARA, Oct 15: The third edition of Men´s National Beach Volleyball kicked off in Pokhara on Monday on the newly constructed court at the beach of Fewa lake.
Western Region A edged past Nepal Army Club B in straight sets 21-17, 21-14 in the inaugural match while Nepal Army Club´s A team thumped Eastern Region A 21-8, 21-5.
In other matches, Far Western Region A saw off Central Region 21-14 21-12 while Armed Police Force (APF) A beat University Sports Association (USA) 21-13, 27-25. APF B also beat USA 21-13, 27-25. Nepal Police Club A saw off Eastern Region B 21-12, 21-8.

The B team of Nepal Police overcame Eastern Region B 21-12, 21-8 while Western Region B edged past Far Western Region B 21-19, 21-7. Altogether 12 league round matches will be played on Tuesday.
Earlier, National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama inaugurated the tournament that features a total of 16 teams, including two each from Nepal Police, Nepal Army and APF. Similarly, one team each from Central Region and USA and two teams each from the remaining four development regions are competing in the event. The tournament is being held in league-cum-knockout format.
The top three teams of the event will be awarded with Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively while the fourth position holder will receive Rs 5,000 along with trophies, medals and certificates.
Earlier, the first and second editions of the tournament were held in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj respectively.
Meanwhile, seven volleyball players and division commander of Nepal Army Western Division Victor Jung Rana were felicitated on the occasion by organizer Nepal Volleyball Association.
Similarly, participant of 10th Asian Games Mindhoj Khadka, Ninth Asian Games Devi Subedi, Balaram Chhetri, Hari Parajuli, Ishwar Shrestha and Hari Rokka, and Rajkumar Gurung were also honored on the occasion.
Gurung was honored for his contribution to volleyball while Rana, the division commander was honored for his contribution to the construction of the beach volleyball court.
