KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Sharan Mahat said on Thursday that the Constituent Assembly (CA) could be revived after political parties forge consensus on all contentious issues of constitution writing.
Speaking at an interaction in Reporters Club Nepal in the capital, Mahat, countering allegations that a few NC leaders are raising voice for CA revival in the hope of getting the post of prime minister, said his party is still open to both the options on hand—CA reinstatement and fresh polls.
Charging that UCPN (Maoist) is neither in favor of CA revival or fresh elections, the NC leader said his party does not have trust in any proposal by Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on those alternatives.
He also said Dahal’s recent idea of going for new presidential elections is nothing but a ploy to capture state powers and made it clear that his party will not accept the proposal. Likewise, he stressed on the need to launch street protests to oust the current government.
