  Locals torch police beat

REPUBLICA

MAHOTTARI, Oct 20: Local villagers have burnt down a police beat in Ramgopalpur VDC of Mahottari district protesting police highhandedness.

According to Ram Babu Thakur, coordinator of a committee organized to celebrate Durga pooja, the locals set the beat on fire after the police misbehaved with them.

Thakur also accused the police of manhandling the locals after failing to receive kickback. However, Ram Dular Mandal, in-charge of Ramgopalpur Area Police Office, said that they resorted to force as the locals attacked them.

The locals also blocked Jaleshwor-Bardibas road on Saturday protesting “police excesses”.
