ACC Women´s T20 Asia Cup
  Nepal suffers humiliating exit

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Oct 29: Nepali women cricketers suffered a humiliating exit from the ACC Women´s T20 Asia Cup on Monday after losing the third group match against host China by 45 runs at the Guanggong International Cricket Stadium in Guangzhou, China.

Both the teams were playing for pride as they had already crashed out from the group stage following defeats in their first two matches. With the defeat, Nepal finished pointless at the bottom of the table in the four-team group. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have qualified for the semifinals as the winner and runner-up from the same group. This is the first time that the Nepali women´s team has lost three consecutive matches.

On Monday, Nepal won the toss and invited the host team to bat, which turned out to be a wrong decision. Nepal failed in both batting and bowling departments. The host team made 92/2 and bowled Nepal out for 47 runs with an over to spare. It was Nepal´s first defeat against China in their third encounter.

As in previous matches, Nepal´s batting was a huge disappointment as only Sita Rana Magar (10 runs) reached double figures. Nary Thapa, who scored an unbeaten 12 runs against Bangladesh, was the only other Nepali batswomen to reach double figures in the tournament.

Five batswomen including debutants Shova Ale and Mamata Chaudhary were run out while three were stumped.

Sonu Khadka (8) was the second-highest scorer while Nary Thapa remained unbeaten on seven runs. Shobha Ale (4), Neera Rajopadhyay (4) Rubina Chhetri (3), Trishna Singh (2) and Roshni Bohara (2) were dismissed cheaply.

Zhou Haijie and Han Lili claimed two wickets apiece while Wu Juan took a wicket for the host team.

Earlier, opening batswoman Zhang Mei scored 44 runs off 60 deliveries with four boundaries while Huan Zhou made 22. Sun Meng Yao (7) and Sun Huan (11) also contributed to China´s total.

Nepal´s skipper Rubina Chhetri and Neera Rajopadhyay claimed a wicket each.
