Ministers chartered chopper for village-level functions

KAMAL THAPA

RUKUM, Nov 6: Two minister holding prominent portfolios in the present cabinet chartered helicopter to visit Rolpa to attend a function to declare a village as "open defecation free area".

Minister of Finance Barashaman Pun and Ministry of Physical Planning, Works and Transport Management, Hridayesh Tripathi on Monday reached Rankot VDC in Ropla by helicopter with the cost paid for by government.

Addressing the function, both the ministers blamed the opposition for the political stalemate. After the function they flew to Madichaur VDC in the district to inaugurate a suspension bridge.

Local leaders of the opposition political parties criticized the ministers for misusing state funds in chartering the helicopter.

Speaking at the bridge inauguration function, Minister Tripathi said the country is stuck in a deadlock, which is unlikely to be resolved easily. He conceded that the present government has not been able to deliver as per people´s aspirations. He blamed the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML for being apathetic to resolve the deadlock.

Minister Pun at the function said the government will bring a full-fledged budget at any cost. "We have maintained maximum flexibility to bring the opposition parties to consensus. And just because the Nepali congress and the CPN-UML acted irresponsibly, we cannot to let the country face a financial crisis," said Pun. He further claimed that new poll will be held in March next year.

Of the total 51 VDC in Rolpa, Rankot is the second VDC to be declared as open defecation free area. All 721 households in the VDC have toilets now.
