KANCHANPUR, Nov. 15: Over 20 per cent children of school-going age Naukhari, a settlement of the freed Kamaiyas are still out of school due to the lack of awareness and poverty.
These children do not have access to school education as their parents take them to work together with them or leave them behind at home to take care of the house. A majority of the freed Kamaiya families here are economically poor and sustain their families on daily wage labour.
Principal of the proposed Janabhavana Lower Secondary School, Pushpa Raj Bhatta, said that many freed Kamaiya families do not send their children to school as they cannot afford to buy educational materials, school uniform and stationery for them.
He said more than 130 children of school-going age at Naukhuri freed Kamaiya settlement are out of school
