SC issues interim order against govt

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Nov 26: The Supreme Court (SC) has asked the government not to shelve the case of murder of Arjun Lama of Kavre district. UCPN-Maoist´s leaders Agni Prasad Sapkota and Surya Man Dong have been accused of being directly involved in the murder of Lama, who was killed during the Maoist insurgency.

After a hearing on a petition filed by Lama´s wife Purnimaya, a single bench of Justice Baidhyanath Upadhyaya on Monday ordered the government not to implement the cabinet´s decision to keep Lama´s case on hold.

Purnimaya on Friday had filed a writ petition at the apex court against the government´s decision to keep her husband´s case, filed at Kavre District Court, pending. The petitioner has argued that the government took the decision to protect its party leaders who were involved in the murder.

A cabinet meeting on July 27 had decided to keep Lama´s case on hold.
