KATHMANDU, Nov 27: Prime Minister Baburam on Tuesday warned authority of Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) to resolve the problems of hospital within two days or he would intervene in the matter. Bhattarai also warned he will order investigtion into the problems that have plagued the hospital for the past one month and take stern action against those found guilty.
Bhattarai called the office bearers of PAHS, at his residence and ordered them to resolve the problem immediately. Chief Secretary Lilamani Poudel, Secretary of Prime Minister Office Krishnahari Baskota and Minister for Health and Population Rajendra Mahatto, were also presented at the discussion. Bhattarai expressed his dissatisfaction over the protests in the hospital that has also affected service delivery.
Health worker, students and employees at hospital have been protesting against political interference in the hospital for past one month. They have been demanding resignation of VC Sangita Bhandari and Rector Soumya Bhattacharya, who were appointed politically from outside the hospital.
Dr Bhattacharya was former head of the department of anatomy, while Dr Bhandari was the former head of the department of Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS).
