BUSINESS BRIEFS: Governor inaugurates Global IME branch
KATHMANDU, Nov 30: Global IME Bank has opened a new branch office in Pushpa Lal Chowk of Nepalgunj. The branch was inaugurated by Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Yuba Raj Khatiwada, according to a bank statement. Speaking on the occasion, Khatiwada stressed the need to bring small farmers to the banking network by extending credit to them at affordable interest rates. The bank has so far opened 62 branch offices in places as far as Taplejung and Rukum.
The bank, which has a customer base of 255,000, has so far collected around Rs 28 billion in deposits and extended Rs 23 billion in loans.
Civil Bank opens two branches
KATHMANDU: Civil Bank has opened new branch offices in Nepalgunj and Birtamod. The Birtamod branch was inaugurated by the bank chairman Ichchha Raj Tamang on Thursday, according to a bank statement. “These two branches will provide high-tech banking services to locals, entrepreneurs, industrialists and others,” says the statement. The bank is currently on the verge of launching initial public offering (IPO) to raise Rs 800 million from the primary market. The bank expects the offering to lure large number of investors particularly because there are lack of investment opportunities at the moment. The bank has appointed Citizens Investment Trust, Ace Capital Markets, NCM Capital Markets and Nabil Investment as issue managers for its IPO.
NBTI launches diploma course on banking
KATHMANDU: National Banking Training Institute (NBTI) has launched diploma course in banking in cooperation with Institute of Finance, Banking and Insurance Training Ltd, India´s largest banking training institute. The diploma program is designed for graduate students and individuals who have career aspirations to grow in the banking industry, says an NBTI statement. The three-month course will focus on enhancing and developing personality, behavioral skills and provide in-depth knowledge of banking operations, adds the statement. The course will help individuals be ´Day 1 Hour 1 Job Ready´ for the banking industry, claims the statement.
Qatar Airways to use Dreamliner on Doha-London route
KATHMANDU: Qatar Airways has announced the launch of its first long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner commercial service from Doha to London Heathrow, a statement of the airlines said. According to the statement, the airlines will start the scheduled operation with next generation aircraft from December 13. "Initially, one of the airline´s five daily flights will be operated with Boeing 787," the statement added. Qatar Airways took delivery of the first of 60 Dreamliners earlier this month with the second arriving over the weekend. Both aircraft are currently operating commercial flights on intra-Gulf routes to familiarize operating crew with the aeroplane before entering the long-haul market, according to the statement.
Yamaha Safe Riding Science held
KATHMAND: MAW, the sole distributor of Yamaha bikes in Nepal has organized a campaign called “Yamaha Safe Riding Science”, a global initiative by Yamaha with the objective to increase safety awareness as the part of its unique Corporate Social Responsibility. According to the statement specially targeted towards the youth, the workshop was conducted in nine college of Kathmandu. The event also featured the Test ride of the new reloaded Yamaha FZ-S. “The main objectives of such one-day workshops are to increase road safety awareness for bikers and pedestrians,” the statement added.
