  UCPN(Maoist) Dhading member slain

SAMUNDRA POUDEL

TANAHU, Dec 3: An unidentified group killed UCPN (Maoist) Dhadhing District Member Bijaya Tamang on Monday. Tamang was attacked by an armed group of around half a dozen youths while he was talking with some people at Gumdi VDC-7, Satdobato in Dhading. He died on the spot, according to police

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Bikash Raj Khanal in Dhading, Tamang was attacked at around 8 a.m.. “Tamang received a deep wound from a sharp weapon in is left shoulder. Two bullet shells were recovered from the spot but there was no sign of bullet injury on his body,” DSP Khanal informed.

Khanal said police have began investigations. “We have already ascertained the people involved in the murder and a search is underway to nab them,” he said.

UCPN (Maoist) Dhading district unit has accused Nepali Congress activists of being behind the murder.

According to Puspa Bikram Malla, Dhadhing district coordinator of the UCPN (Maoist), Tamang had gone to Tinchok of Dumdi VDC by motorbike on Sunday and spent the night there as the bike broke down.

Malla also said the murder was a conspiracy hatched by Nepali Congress activists and it was carried out by Ashok Tamang and six accomplices.

Malla accused police of not taking any precautionary measures even though his party had informed them of a possible attack on Bijaya Tamang. “They did not cooperate even after the incident took place,” Malla further said.

The Nepali Congress has rubbished the Maoist accusation.

“We demand immediate action against the murderers. But, the accusation against the NC is completely unfounded,” said NC Dhading Chairman Ram Nath Adhikari.

The Maoists on Monday organized an hour-long Dhading closedown to protest the murder.
