Nexus 7 yet to enter Nepali market

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Customers eagerly waiting to own Google´s Nexus 7 have to wait for sometime as the tablet which was set to enter the Nepali market in September has not arrived yet.

Nagmani International had previously announced that it would launch the tablet in the Nepali market by the first week of September, but could not because the product has not made its way into the country yet.

“The demand for Nexus 7 is very high in the American and Indian market. Hence, the shipment to Nepal has been delayed. This has forced us to defer the launch plan and request the customers to wait for sometime,” said Amit Sharaf, director of Nagmani International.

Sharaf said the company is expecting the tablet to arrive in the Nepali market by the end of December but the date for launch has not been fixed yet.
The 7-inch Nexus 7 is slim with thickness of 10.9 mm and weighs 336gm only making it portable.

“As Nexus 7 is getting popular around the world, we are hopeful that this gadget will create a buzz here. Besides we are receiving lots of enquiries every day due to which we are very excited about introducing the product very soon,” said Sharaf.

He added that though cheaper tablets are being introduced in the market lately, tech-savvy people are opting for tablets with better features irrespective of the price tag.

The Nexus 7 is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Operating System -- the latest version of the world´s popular mobile platform. It has Quad Core Tegra 3 processor which makes every activity smooth and extremely fast. Besides, it is equipped with Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset and Ultra Low Power (ULP) GeForce Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

The tablet comes with 8 GB and 16 GB storage options and 1 GB RAM. The only drawback in Nexus 7 is that it does not have SD card slot for memory expansion.

Nexus has LED backlit and In Plane switching (IPS) Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch functionality. Its screen is protected by ultra-strong Gorilla Glass.

The tablet is equipped with accelerometer, magnetometer, gyroscope, proximity and compass sensors. It supports WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC connectivity. However, it doesn´t support GSM voice communication, SMS or MMS. It has a 1.2 mega pixels front facing camera for video calling.

Besides, it has other features like Google Wallet, SNS integration, MP4, WMV, DIVX, XVID, H.263, MP3, WAV, EAAC and WMA player, image and video editor, document viewer, Google Search, maps, Gmail, YouTube, calendar, Google Talk, Picasa integration and voice memo, among others.

According to Sharaf, Nexus 7 with 8 GB storage will be priced at around Rs 32,000 and the 16 GB version will be available for around Rs 40,000.
