'Disqualified' combatants to step up stir

REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Dec 6: Agitating ‘disqualified’ former PLA combatants on Thursday said they would intensify their stir against UCPN (Maoist) to get their demand met.

Organizing a presses meet at the Maoist headquarters in Peris Danda, they unveiled their protest program that includes torch rallies, sit-in outside district administration offices and chakkajams.

They have put forth an eight-point demand including the removal of disqualification tag and a financial package on par with fellow voluntarily retired fighters, among other things.

The combatants have been staging protest at their party headquarters since November 28 to press for their demand. A total of 4,008 PLA fighters were discharged from their camps after being ‘disqualified’ by the United Nations Mission in Nepal, earlier.
