Union protests expulsion of DAV teachers

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU: Nepal Institutional School Teachers´ Union (NISTU) has launched agitation against the expulsion of two teachers, Sagar Thapa and Santosh Jha, of DAV School at Patan.

The union has also claimed that the school has not been paying income taxes and turning a blind eye to malpractices like unusual fees, violation of child rights and misbehavior with staffs. "We will end our protest only after the school reinstates the two teachers and clears its income tax," said Amal Rai, under-secretary of NISTU.

"We will not carry out any program which will hamper the education of students. All we want is a positive response and cooperation from the school toward meeting our demands." The agitators said they were forced to take the step after the school authority ignored their requests to hold talks. Some parents and other unions have expressed their support to the agitation. Babu Ram Pokhrel, president of Private and Boarding Schools´ Organization, Nepal (PABSON), has assured the agitators of the support of his organization.
