  Consensus up to Dahal: Koirala

REPUBLICA

DOLAKHA, Dec 13: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala has said that there will be consensus within five days if UCPN (Maoist) did not create hurdles.

Koirala´s remarks came in the wake of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav extending the deadline yet again for five days after parties failed to reach to any consensus within the previous deadlines.

Addressing the condolence meeting organized to mark the 13th day of the demise of the party´s CWC member Bhim Bahadur Tamang, Koirala also asked Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to be honest in politics. "Should Prachandaji becomes honest, responsible and serious enough, there will be consensus within the next five days," he said.

Koirala also said that that they can hold fresh polls by mid-May after forming a national consensus government if the Maoists became honest enough in the agreement reached in the past.

While stating that NC was committed upholding the achievements of Janaandolan II, NC CWC member Bimalendra Nidhi alleged that Maoists had created obstacles to consensus efforts by demanding prior agreement on all contentious issues of the new statute.

NC organized condolence meeting in all district headquarters, marking the 13th day of the death of Tamang. While senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba addressed a joint condolence meeting organized by the party´s district committees in Kathmandu Valley, Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel had reached to Chitwan to address the condolence meeting.
