KATHMANDU, Dec 16: Twin sisters Mayanka and Mahika Rana secured quarterfinal berths in the girls´ U-14 singles of the 11th Jaykar Memorial Junior National Open Tennis Tournament.
Mayanka defeated Ira Raut 6-3, 7-6 on Sunday at the Satdobato Tennis Court while Mahika humbled Medhavi Giri 6-1, 6-1. Khusi Pandey thrashed Amisha Raymajhi 6-0, 6-1, Shivalika Rana edged past Suchi Gupta 6-2, 6-0, Annie Mathema defeated Karuna Gauchan 6-2, 6-4 and Cathy Mathema crushed Harisita Jugeli 6-0, 6-0 to reach the last eight of the girls´ U-14 singles.
Bibek Shrestha, Anish Bande, Kastup Pandey and Sajan Rai reached the round of last 16 in the boys´ U-14 singles of the tournament organized by Man-Jaykar Tennis Academy. Shrestha thrashed Anusthan Bahadur Singh 6-0, 6-0 while Bande humbled Emanuel Lim 6-0, 6-1. It was cakewalk for Pandey as he pulled an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory over Suvam Thakur while Rai struggled past Harsha Rauniyar 6-4, 7-5. Likewise, Renjen Lama humbled Avinav Acharya 6-0, 6-0 and Aarjan Dhungel beat Sirilraj Satyal 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the pre-quarterfinals of the section.
In U-10 boys´ singles, Rahul Singh beat Piyush Singh 8-5 and Binay Batas thrashed Gajin Jugeli 8-1 to reach pre-quarterfinals. Likewise, Sudan Lamichhane, Saharsha Chand, Prasiddha Panjiyar, Bibek Khetan and Nitesh Kumar Thakur also stormed into the round of 16 in the section.
Meanwhile, Saloni Tamang thrashed Aasiyana Prasai 8-0 on Sunday in the girls´ U-10 singles while Arya Prasai received walkover from Agrima Mainali to reach pre-quarterfinals.
