KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has argued that NC should openly accept the conditions set by the UCPN (Maoist) to lead the new government.
Asked if NC should accept the Maoist´s condition to amend the statute and other related laws for fresh polls in exchange for government leadership, Deuba said NC should accept the conditions if the Maoists are really willing to allow NC to lead the govenrment.
"There is no problem in accepting the conditions set by the Maoists if they do not mean to deceive NC," Deuba said in a special interaction organized by Reporters´ Club Nepal at his residence Sunday.
Deuba also asked not to cast doubts over the remarks made by Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal that there will be consensus within the deadline given by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav. The deadline expires on Monday.
In a separate context, Deuba argued that the constitution could be promulgated through a revived Constituent Assembly (CA) if there was consensus on all contentious issues among the political parties. "But since there are slim chances of consensus on contentious issues, the only alternative is to go for fresh polls," he said.
