KATHMANDU, Dec 18: After political parties’ persistent failure to meet the deadline, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav extended the time-frame for the formation of consensus government by five days (till Saturday), on Tuesday.
This is a fifth time the president has extended the deadline after he formally summoned the political parties on November 23 to name their common prime ministerial candidate to lead consensus government.
The president has given additional time to choose new prime minister and for the formation of the cabinet through political consensus till December 22, upon the political parties’ request, reads a press statement issued by the president’s office.
Earlier in the day, top leaders of the three major political parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front had reached the president´s office to request him yet another extension of the deadline by three to five days.
