KATHMANDU, Dec 19: Sanghiyatabadi Samyukta Gathabandhan Sangharsha Samiti, a newly formed alliance of 11 ethnic parties and organizations, has said fresh election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) would be unacceptable to the alliance.
Organizing a press meet at the Reporters´ Club Nepal in the capital on Tuesday, the ethnic leaders stated that fresh CA election would not be acceptable to them under any circumstances. It has also warned of protests against fresh polls.
"We will retaliate if the government and its supporters use force against us," said General Secretary of Mongol Democratic Party Krishna Bahadur Tamang. "We will stage peaceful protests but we will not keep quiet if the state attempts to suppress our voice."
Tamang stated that they would expose the political parties that are against ethnic-based federalism. He said that they would strengthen their alliance by accommodating other parties and groups in favor of ethnic based federalism. "Various groups have expressed their solidarity with our alliance," he said.
The alliance has demanded revival of the dissolved CA and promulgation of a new constitution guaranteeing ethnic-based federalism. Similarly, the alliance has demanded formation of a national consensus government comprising all political parties in the country.
Leaders associated with the alliance accused the government of trying to prolong the political transition in the name of holding CA polls.
The alliance has announced first phase of protests from Wednesday.
