KATHMANDU, Dec 26: Nigerina football player Austin Ndife, 21, who had arrived in Nepal for trial died on Monday due to cardiac arrest. Ndife who was not enrolled at any club died at the Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Bansbari. According to Ndife´s close friend Michael Ntife of Saraswati Club, the Nigerian had arrived in Nepal a couple of months ago and had appeared in the trial for A division outfits Three Star, Friends and Bauddha.
"We have requested ANFA to make arrangements for sending his body to his homeland," said Michael Ntife. The Nigerian had heart problem since last two weeks and was admitted to Gangalal on Sunday.
The African players have also pleded ANFA to arrange friendly match with Africa XI and a team from Nepal in the memory of late Ndife. Meanwhile, former Bauddha player Kumar Lama who was suffering from Femur cancer since more than one year died on Sunday at the B and B hospital.
Central Region holds Far Western
DHANGADHI: Central Region held Far Western Region in a goalless draw on Wednesday in the First Women´s League Football Tournament being held in Dhangadhi, Kailali. Meanwhile, Western Region edged past Mid Western Region 2-0. Sita Khadka opened the scoring in the 33rd minute for Western Region, while Bidya Rana doubled the score four minutes later.
Nepal confirms participation in Asian Junior Tennis
KATHMANDU: All Nepal Lawn Tennis Association has confirmed participation of Nepali U-14 tennis players in the upcoming ITF Asian Junior Tennis Championship to be held in Vietnam from January 14 to 25. According to Tennis coach Surya Bhusan Bajracharya, the association has confirmed the participation of three players each in boys´ and girls´ sections. The players would be selected after the completion of round-robin league that started on Wednesday at the Satdobato Tennis Court, Lalitpur. Five boys and seven girls are participating in the selection tournament. Top three of the round robin league will book tickets for Vietnam.
HIMS, KISC win matches
KATHMANDU: HIMS and KISC won their respective matches on Wednesday in boys´ section of the 10th TIA Cup Inter School Basketball Tournament. HIMS defeated Bhadrakali 55-35 as Tenjing Rinjin scored 20 points for the winning side. Likewise, KISC edged past Baba 43-32 and Kathmandu Valley beat Neric 33-26. In girls´ section, Valley Public thrashed the host Trungram International Academy (TIA) 22-10 as Soniya Limbu scored 10 points for the winner.
