  Khadka wins Surya Nepal Eastern Open

DHARAN, Dec 28: Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC) pro Rabi Khadka won the Surya Nepal Eastern Open at the par-70 Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort in Dharan on Friday, claiming his third title under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012-13.

Khadka carded three-over 73 on the final day on Friday for a total of three-over 283 to register one-shot victory over Sanjay Lama, who played two-over 72 on Friday for a total of four-over 284. It was Khadka´s fifth career title.

Mani Rai played even-par 70 to finish third at five-over 285. Out of the total cash purse of Rs 460,000, the top three pros received Rs 88,000, Rs 55,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively.

Overnight leader Suman Rai ended up fourth at six-over 286 after playing disastrous last round of seven-over 77. He received Rs 34,000.

Surya Prasad Sharma (69) was fifth at eight-over 288 while Ram Thapa (70) was sixth at 289. Dhana Thapa (75) came seventh at 291 while Tham Bahadur Rai (70) and Deepak Thapa Magar (70) shared the eighth position at 292. Ramesh Adhikari (74) finished 10th at 294.

Former Nepal No 1 Khadka, who began the day trailing Suman Rai by one stroke, played one-under 34 to take five-stroke lead over both Rai and Lama after the front nine. Lama had played two-over 37 and Rai had faltered to five-over 40. On the back nine, Rabi played four-over 39, while Lama carded even-par 35 and Rai shot two-over 37.

Khadka carded four birdies on the fifth, sixth, eighth and 13th holes against bogeys on the fourth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th, 14th and 15th holes. Lama shot a birdie on the sixth against bogeys on the first, third and seventh holes on the front nine. He saved pars on all the nine holes on the back nine.

In amateur section, Bishnu Sharma played two-over 72 to win the trophy with the total score of 11-over 291. Nepal No 1 Bikash Bogati carded 70 to finish second at 293, while Dinesh Prajapati was third at 299 after playing the round of 75.

President of Nepal Professional Golfers Association (NPGA) Rabindra Man Shrestha, Chairman of Nirvana Country Club Shashi Ram Bhandari, Brand Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Keshav Pradhan and General Secretary of Nepal Golf Association Tashi Ghale handed over the prizes to the winners.
