DHADING, Jan. 2: Women rights activists in the district have, in a symbolic protest against the failure of the government to arrest the perpetrators of violence against women in various parts of the country, gifted a pair of handcuffs to the Prime Minister.
They handed over a handcuff to Chief District Officer Bed Prasad Pokharel after staging a sit-in in front of the District Administration Office here on Wednesday.
"If it is because the state has run out of handcuffs, we are sending these handcuffs so that the perpetrators of violence against women are arrested and punished", reads a memorandum handed along with the handcuffs.
A large number of people including human rights workers, media persons and civil society leaders had taken part in a candle procession organized on Tuesday evening by women rights defenders of Dhading to ´search for justice´
