Consensus in next couple of days: Dahal

REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Jan 2: UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday assured that the political parties would find a consensus candidate before the expiry of the five-day deadline issued by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav.

After arriving home from Bangkok at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday, Dahal said his party would start serious discussions with other political parties to create conducive environment for holding election by April-May.

Dahal had flown to Bangkok on Monday for medical treatment of his wife Sita, who had been suffering from kidney problems.

"I hope there will be consensus between the parties in the next two days," said Dahal talking to media persons.

The opposition parties have proposed Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala as the prime ministerial candidate while the ruling Maoists and Madhesi alliance have been arguing in favor of turning Bhattarai-led government into a unity government.

Dahal also said that their first priority would be to seek a consensus prime ministerial candidate from within the political parties. He, however, said, “We should not object to a candidate from outside the parties though," added Dahal.
