RSS

ILAM, Jan. 7: A ginger processing centre has been established in Panchakanya VDC of Ilam district for the first time.

The Maipuje Farmers´ Group set up the centre at Rs. 2.5 million for processing ginger which is one of the major agricultural products of the district. The group invested Rs. 1.3 million while the Commercial Agriculture Alliance invested Rs. 1.2 million, said chairman of the Centre, Toyanath Bhattarai.

The centre has the capacity of processing 150 kilograms of ginger daily. Farmers in Panchakanya, Godak, and Namsaling will be benefitted. The Centre would process the ginger and take the powdered ginger to the market mainly to be used as vegetable spices. The farmers will get more price for the processed ginger as it is easy to store for longer period than the unprocessed ginger roots, informed the centre
