KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Defending champion Gyanu Baba Higher Secondary School, Pokhara registered its second consecutive victory in the Shin Ramyun International Invitational Women´s Volleyball Tournament in Pokhara on Tuesday.
Gyanu Baba defeated visiting team Barisa Sabuj, Kolkata 25-21, 25-6, 21-25, 25-15 on Tuesday. Pariksha Gurung of the winning side was adjudged the player-of-the-match. Gyanu Baba had defeated Fishtail Higher Secondary School, Pokhara in the opening match of the tournament on Monday.
Meanwhile, Fishtail suffered another defeat in the tournament as Armed Police Force pulled off a 25-19, 25-17, 25-16 victory in the second match of the day. Nebika Chaudhary of APF won the player-of-the-match award.
Likewise, New Diamond edged past another visiting side Barsat Academy, Kolkata 25-20, 25-23, 25-10 as captain Ramila Tandukar led from the front with a player-of-the-match performance. New Diamond had lost to Nepal Police Club on Monday.
Altogether seven teams -- five from Nepal and two from India -- are participating in the tournament.
According to tournament coordinator Chhyam Bahadur Thapa, the tournament will be played in league-cum-knockout format. The winner of the tournament will receive Rs 101,111 while the runner-up will get Rs 50,555. The third-place holder will received Rs 20,222.
