  Illegal hospitals mushrooming in Siraha

MITHILESH YADAV

SIRAHA, Jan 14: Locals have expressed dissatisfaction over the apathy of authorities concerned in controlling mushrooming of illegal hospitals and clinics in Siraha district.

Jagbir Yadav of Bishanpur visited concerned officials many times, requesting them to shut down illegal hospitals and clinics operating in the district. But his requests have fallen on deaf ears. I have realized that anything done by rich and powerful people is correct, a disappointed Yadav told Republica.

Only eight private hospitals have been registered in the district so far, according to Raj Kumar Das, an official at District Public Health Office (DPHO), Siraha. But many illegal private hospitals, including clinics and poly-clinics, have come into existence lately.

As many as four dozen private polyclinics, nursing home and clinics are in operation in the district.

The eight registered private hospitals in the district are Kamalamai Polyclinic in Bandipur, Phoolkumari Memorial Hospital in Karjanha, Mirchaiya Norvic Home in Mirchaiya, Bhumija Hospital and Research Centre in Golbazar, Aajay Dental Hospital in Golbazar, Saptarishi Hospital in Lahan, Friends Model Hospital in Lahan, Kamana Nursing Home and Model Teaching Hospital in Siraha.

“Efforts of DPHO alone won´t be sufficient to bring those illegal health institutions under the purview of law. It will be possible only with the support of local administration and police,” said Das.

However, Dhurba Prasad Dhakal, Chief District Officer of Siraha, said the local administration is unaware of the problem as the DPHO is yet to inform it about the mushrooming of illegal health institutions in the district.

Most of the illegal health hospitals and clinics are promoted by doctors and health workers appointed at Siraha District Hospital,
And these illegal hospitals and clinics are evading taxes as well as they are not registered with Inland Revenue Office, Lahan.
