  CPN-Maoist leaders immoral: UCPN (Maoist)

KIRAN PUN

KATHMANDU, Jan 20: Countering allegations of financial irregularities, the recent political document for the upcoming general convention of the UCPN (Maoist) has labeled the Mohan-Baidya led CPN-Maoist leaders “immoral, mysterious and most non-transparent”.

Maoist leaders have accused the party leadership of not maintaining transparency in its financial activities for the last 21 years. Interestingly, Amik Sherchan, coordinator of the probe commission formed to investigate into financial irregularities in the party had submitted its report to UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal the same day the latter´s political document was endorsed by the party´s general convention organizing committee. Dahal´s document had been endorsed on January 10.

The UCPN (Maoist) had formed two probe commissions after party cadres obstructed the plenum at Bhrikuti Mandap in July demanding probe into irregularities in the People´s Liberation Army (PLA) fund and properties illegally amassed by party leaders. While one commission was led by Sherchan, the other led by party secretary Post Bahadur Bogati.

"Most of the leaders close to Baidya are immoral, mysterious and most nontransparent in their personal and family lives and financial activities,” reads the political document.

"The CPN-Maoist leaders are pointing their fingers at themselves by talking about transparency and morality." The document also counters allegations labeled by the CPN-Maoist saying they baseless and aimed at “character assassination” of the UCPN (Maoist) leaders. The document also termed the Baidya led CPN-Maoist´s the slogan of national sovereignty a farce.

Reviewing the party´s current political line and intra party rift, Dahal mentioned that while Bhattarai had criticized the idea of “centralized leadership”, Baidya seemingly harbored a feeling of vengeance. The document claims that Baidya was not for the revolution even when preparations were being made for the people´s war.

"Baidya was intolerant ever since preparations were being made for the People´s War. He was intolerant and stubborn. This led to the split of the party," reads the document.

Reviewing party´s intra-party rift, the document added that the dogmatism and narrow-mindedness of the Baidya-faction emerged as a major problem even after the Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.

Countering allegations that the UCPN (Maoist) leaders betrayed the revolution and exchanged achievements of the people´s war with power, the document says, "The CPN-Maoist rejected the decisions of the people´s war and the April movement."

The document also accuses the Baidya-led party of forming an alliance with the reactionary forces, such as the NC and the UML, to form a new government.
