TANAHUN, Jan 21: Five people were killed and 53 injured when a bus headed for Kathmandu from Arughat of Gorkha district fell 150 meters from the road in Jyamruk VDC-7 of Dhading district on Monday.

Police have identified the dead as Laxman Dahal, 20, of Budhathum VDC in Dhading; Rupesh Shrestha, 8, of Salyantar VDC in Dhading; Monika Gurung, 26, and Mitthe Baram, 45, of Thumi VDC in Gorakha; and Kanchhi Gurung, 45, of Gumda. While two died on the spot, the rest three breathed their last while being rushed to hospital. Among the 53 injured, teh condition of 30 is reportedly critical.

The bus (Na 2 Kha 4985) met with the accident as it was overcrowded and was overspeeding on the bumpy road, said DSP Bikash Raj Khanal. “We are also looking into other causes,” said DSP Khanal.
