MoIC, Korean firm ink pact on information highway project

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) on Wednesday signed agreement with Korea based I-Craft for the implementation of South Asian Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) Information Highway Project.
The project funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) is focused on laying optical fiber connection between Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan. Sushil Ojha, director of the project and joint-secretary of the ministry signed the agreement at a program at the ministry on Wednesday.
As per the agreement I-Craft will open 30 community e-centers in rural areas and lay optical fiber in 170 km connecting Banepa and Bardibas. The project targets to set up cross-border connectivity with a backbone bandwidth of 10 Gbps and to make rural communities ICT enabled.
“As we have signed the agreement, the implementation will begin soon,” Ojha said.
