REPUBLICA ONLINE

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Nepal started its ACC Women’s Championship campaign on a winning note, pulling off a comprehensive eight-wicket win in its first match of the tournament against Bhutan, in Thailand on Thursday.

Winning the toss and electing to field first at Prem Oval, Nepal restricted Bhutan to 65/8 in 25 overs a side match. Rubina Chhetry and Neera Rajopadhyay claimed two wickets each to bundle out Bhutan for a small total.

For Bhutan, wicketkeeper bastwoman Dechen Wangmo top-scored with 23 not out. She hit two fours in her 70-ball knock. Besides her, no other Bhutanese players could score in double digits.

In reply, Nepal surpassed the target in just 13.4 overs, losing only two wickets. Nepal lost the wickets of Madhu Thapa (1) and the top-scorer of Nepali innings Roshani Bohara (19) before registering a thumping win.

Bohara struck three fours facing 18 balls. Sita Magar (18) and Sarita Magar (11) remained unbeaten, both hitting one boundary each.

Today’s match was a second encounter between the two national sides in women’s cricket. As the tournament is the first step to reach the ICC Women´s T20 World Cup, Nepali team is aiming to win the title.

The winner of the ACC Women´s Championship will qualify to play ICC World T20 World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Ireland in August. Nepal will next play the UAE on Friday.
