PARASI, Jan. 24: The reconstruction of the spurs of the Gandak Dam in Nawalparasi, which were damaged in the floods, has not been started yet.
The Spur Nos. 11 and 12 of the B Gap of the dam in Nawalparasi were damaged by floods last year.
If they are not repaired, the remaining part of them will be damaged and at least some 13 VDCs will be in danger of inundation. Although Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had assured to immediately construct them after inspecting, it has not been started, said water resource campaigner Kuldip Acharya.
The water is still cutting the spurs. Even if India had made embankment during the floods, it has not started reconstruction, said Secretary of the Gandak River Control Struggle Committee Dudhnath Gupta.
Locals have demanded repair as southern VDCs will be inundated in the summer season.
A total of 13 VDCs are under threat, said Paklihawa local Suresh Yadav. India has not shown any concern even if demand had been made with Indian government for the same. Southern VDC Narsahi, Kudiya, Pratappur, among others, will be inundated if not repaired.
Struggle Committee Secretary Prem Chandra Gupta said the spurs were damaged as river current is near them.
The spurs earlier 163 meters long are now only 25 meters but no one has cared to repair, he said.
