DHANGADHI, Jan 27: Cadres of opposition parties waved black flags and hurled brickbats at the vehicle of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai in Dhangadhi on Sunday. However, the brickbats didn´t cause any damages as they hit the tyres of the vehicle.
When the vehicle had reached Rastra Bank chowk, the agitated cadres broke the security barrier and waved black flags at the prime minister and chanted anti-government slogans.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Bhattarai along with UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had reached Dhangadhi by helicopter to inaugurate the Kailali district convention of the UCPN (Maoist) in Dhangadhi. They had landed at Nepal Army´s Boradadi barracks.
The cadres had continued their protest outside the covered hall, when the two leaders entered the convention for inauguration.
Opposition cadres had also closed Dhangadhi market for two hours from 2 pm to 4 pm. Protestors chanted slogans and burnt tires on the streets when the two leaders addressed the Maoist function inside the covered hall.
Denouncing the government intervention in the investigation into journalist Dekendra Thapa´s murder, media persons in the district had also joined the protest rally. The media persons had worn black bands around their arms.
Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police had escorted the prime minister in Dhangadhi.
