REPUBLICA

KATHMANDU, Jan 28: A presentation of WhatNext, The Runway fashion show showcasing the collections of Subexya Bhadel and WareHouse Designers (an online shopping website importing clothes from the UK) took place at the Radisson Hotel in Lazimpat on Saturday. Products from H&M, F21, New Look, Zara, Gucci, Armani and many other brands will now be made available through WD.

Amongst the glittering effects of the well dressed people and some poor style statements, the show kicked off with designs from the WareHouse Designers. Malvika Subba, Nisha Adhikari, Dia Maskey, Priyanka Karky, Prerana Shah, Neelam Chand and Shivangini Rana walked the poorly constructed runway with designs that were average.

Considering Subexya Bhadel’s reputation in the Nepali fashion industry and the fact that she has already done many fashion shows, her designs did not really strike a chord. While one sequence had too much flowers happening in the dresses, some of them could actually be worn. The winter collection was pleasant to look at but could’ve been better with a little more detailing in it.

The showcasing, however, was poor throughout the show, from stitching and fittings to the oversized shoes worn by the models, which should’ve been taken care of before the actual show. The models did well and the choreography by Bipen Gurung was not so bad either. Sakil Kunwar’s hair and make-up, as usual, was effective and proper.

Nepali fashion industry seems to be growing as people show more interest towards it but it’s still going to take some time for it to improve in aspects including managing the fashion show to start on time and not having to make the guests wait in-between the sequences while the models change.
