  Timber, truck, bullock cart detained

UPENDRA YADAV

BARA, Jan 29: Police have detained a truck and a bullock cart loaded with freshly sawed contraband timber from a forest here Tuesday morning.

A team of Armed Police Force (APF) from Sima Surakshya Bal Base Camp, Nijgadh, detained the truck (Na 2 Kha 2647) and a bullock cart but the smugglers had already fled the scene leaving the vehicle behind when the police team reached the spot. Smugglers had already loaded 150 cubic feet timber on the vehicles.

APF Superintendent of Police (SP) at Sima Surakshya Bal Base Camp in Bara, Kalidash Shrestha, informed that they are trying to establish the ownership of the truck and searching for the smugglers. He also informed that the truck, bullock cart and the timber have been handed over to the District Forest Office.

Due to the rampant illegal logging , the 56,000 hectares of forest area is getting thinner by the day, according to Bara District Forest Office.
