Rautahat, Feb 5: Students who are carrying out their final preparations for the SLC exams have still not received the course books. Some haven’t been able to get hold of books for Social Studies, while others complain that they haven’t received the text book for Health subject.
The students from Janajagrit Higher Secondary School located in Sindureghari lament that they haven’t yet received the text books for Social Studies, a subject which is compulsory to study in class ten. Kiran Thing shares that as the book aren’t available in the market, this has become a major hurdle for the students who are preparing for their upcoming SLC exams. While, Yuvraj Poudel, a teacher, shares that it’s difficult to even to teach because the scarcity of the text books.
Similarly, text books for the second optional subject, Health and Physical Education are lacking at Ramchandra Secondary School in Basbiti in Jungadiya. Even after the academic calendar has approached its tenth month, some text books aren’t available, says Principal Subodh Kumar Chaudhary. Majority of the school are facing challenges due to the dearth of text books while some schools have resorted to giving out photo-copied versions of the required books.
The unavailability of the text books has led to students depending on guess papers when it comes to preparing for the exams. “Now that the government has banned guess papers, the students are having a hard time as well,” says Balkishor Yadav, of Mahamadpur Secondary School.
However, Dilip Thakur from the District Education Office, says that he’s unaware about the shortages of text books. “We haven’t received any official information. If and when we do, we will immediately attend to it,” he says.
