  Singer Sugam Pokhrel held on drug abuse charge

KATHMANDU, Feb 8: Narcotics Control Bureau, New Baneshwar has arrested popular singer Sugam Pokhrel and six others in possession of brown heroin from near the Dhobikhola bridge connecting Maitidevi and Old Baneshwar in Kathmandu.

According to DSP Rabindra Regmi of the Bureau, acting on a tip-off, a police squad deployed from the Bureau had arrested them abusing the drug. Police seized one and half grams of brown heroin from plastic bags, according to the bureau.

DSP Regmi said that singer Pokhrel was in the drug users group but the narcotic was not found in his person.

All including singer Pokhrel have been kept at the Bureau office for further investigations and Pokharel could be released on Sunday because Saturday is government holiday, according to police. However, Pokhrel has claimed that he was arrested from his home.
