KATHMANDU: Everest School achieved mixed result on Sunday in the senior girl´s basketball during Daffodil Cup Inter-school Basketball and Football Tournament being held in the capital. Everest defeated Lord Light in the first match and in another faced defeat at the hands of host Daffodil. Riding on 20 points of Sabista Sakha Everest defeated Lord Lights 20-10 but was defeated 20-42 by Daffodil. Frezialla Tamang contributed 15 points for Daffodil. Similarly, Xavier International saw off Brihaspati Vidhya Sadan 29-20. Aastha Gurung contributed highest 20 points for the winning side. Meanwhile, Young Hearts and Deep Jyoti emerged victorious in junior boy´s football. Sheray Budha achieved hat-trick for Yount Hearts as it defeated Brihaspati Vidhya Sadan 4-2. Sandup Tamang netted another for Young Hearts while Siddhartha Voldhoj netted both the goals for Bhispati. In other match, Sunil Ghale completed hat-trick and Dipesh Hamal hit a brace as Deep Jyoti crushed RIBS 5-2. Abin Lama was on target twice for RIBS.
Chyasal climbs out of relegation zone KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Chyasal Youth Club climbed out of the relegation zone on Sunday after playing 1-1 draw against United Youth Club in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division Football League being held at APF ground, Halchowk.
The second draw Chysala earned after playing eighth match lifted it out of relegation zone, 12th place with two points pushing Kathmandu Club with one point at the relegation area. United Youth climbed one spot up to ninth position.
On Sunday, Chyasal had taken 18th minute lead through Kamalesh Chaudhary but Suji Budathoki hit back the equalizer for United in the 54th minute.
In the day´s late match, Bijay Ghale scored decisive for Satdobato Youth Club in its 1-0 victory over Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Youth Club. Ghale achieved the target in the 63rd minute.
With its second win, Satdobato remained unchanged in 11th place with eight poitns while Pulchowk dropped a spot below to 10th position with nine points. Both Satdobato and Pulchowk have played seven matches apiece.
Meanwhile, there will be three matches on Tuesday with Birgunj Youth Academy taking on Mahabir Studies and Athletics Assocation, Kathmandu Club vying with Samajik Club and Boys Union locking horns with Tushal Club.
Budhanilkantah claims President´s Cup KATHMANDU: Budhanilkantah School, Kathmandu claimed the title of Kathmandu District-wide President´s Cup Running shield on Sunday. Budhanilkantha scored a total of 184 points in the high school level event that consist of athletics and volleyball. Bijeshwari Gyan Mandir finished runner up with 169 points and Deep Jyoti secured third position with 130 points in its kitty. The top three finishers team bagged purse of Rs 10,000, Rs 7,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively
Karmacharya claims rapid chess KATHMANDU: Former national champion Punyaman Karmacharya on Sunday claimed the title of First National Rapid Chess Tournament held in memory of late chess player Harsha Ratna Shakya in the capital. Karmacharya defeated Surbir Lama in the seventh round to finish on top with six points. Keshav Shrestha finished second with 5.5 points defeating Prachanda Malakar. With equal 5.5 points as that of Shrestha, Shyam Krishna Malakar finished third on the basis of progressive points. Shyam Krishna defeated FIDE Master Willamlal Shrestha. Prachanda Malakar and Surbir Lama came fourth and fifth respectively. The winner and the runner up players bagged Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000 respectively
