KATHMANDU, Feb 17: Accusing the party leadership of going against the party´s central committee decision while accepting the proposal to form election government under the leadership of sitting chief justice, Nepali Congress (NC) central committee member Gagan Thapa has demanded that the party leadership call its Mahasamiti meeting, which is mandated to take decision on the party´s crucial policies.
"The party´s key leaders have reached an understanding to mandate the chief justice to use executive powers as well, which is totally against the letter and spirit of the central committee´s decision," youth leader Thapa said in his statement issued on Sunday.
Claiming that the leaders´ decision to accept the proposal to form CJ-headed government had undermined the CC, Thapa has urged the party rank and file to fight against the tendency of surrender seen in the party leadership.
"The CC´s decision has clearly stated that it is not acceptable for Nepali Congress to allow the sitting chief justice to use executive powers under any pretext," said Thapa. He has argued that the decision to bring the judiciary in active politics will only complicate the ongoing transitional stage and a very bad impact in the long-run politics.
Thapa also accused the NC leadership of giving up basic democratic principles by accepting sitting chief justice as head of the executive.
