Meeting of top leaders, CJ inconclusive

REPUBLICA ONLINE

(Update II)
KATHMANDU, Feb 20
:A meeting among the top leaders of the four major political forces--UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML and United Democratic Madhesi Front—and Chief Justice (CJ) Khil Raj Regmi at his residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday ended inconclusively.

Speaking with reporters after the meeting, NC leader Ram Chandra Paudel said that the meeting failed to take any decisions as the parties have decided to hold further discussions on political and constitutional issues.

The senior leaders had called on the CJ purportedly to convince him on the conditions and wordings of the deal earlier agreed by the leaders to form an election government under his leadership.

On Tuesday morning, the CJ during a meeting with the prime minister had expressed his ´unwillingness´ to head the proposed election government with conditions.

He had maintained that he would not lead the government if there was no consensus among political parties and had even questioned the commitments of the political parties to hold Constituent Assembly elections by May-end.
