KATHMANDU, Feb 22: The Metropolitan Police on Friday raided an illegal alcohol production site at Saraswoti VDC-8 in Tokhha and destroyed more than 9,000 liters of alcohol and raw materials used for alcohol production. The police have arrested four female workers involved in the production but said they have not yet identified the owner.
Sudan KC, a police sub-inspector with Metropolitan Police Sector Office, Tokhha, said, “The locals tried to prevent the raid team from entering the cottages in the beginning. But when we entered forcefully, we found fifty-six plastic drums full of ready-to-be-supplied alcohol and raw materials.”
The police emptied all the fifty-six plastic drums and seized the alcohol fermentation stills, pipes and drums from the cottages, he added. The arrested four have been kept at Gongabu Metropolitan Police Sector Office for further investigation.
According to the sector in charge, Inspector Birendra Bahadur Shahi, the police have been searching the owner known as ´Mote´ based on the information provided by the arrested.
The four woman have said that they do not know the owner well but can recognize him if they see him, according to the police.
The police have estimated that there are more than two hundred such alcohol production sites in the capital.
The police have decided to carry out a series of raids to crack down on the mushrooming home-made alcohol production sites in various parts of the Valley.
