BUSINESS BRIEFS: Shangri-la Bank proposes 11% dividend

KATHMANDU, Feb 26: Pokhara-based Shangri-la Development Bank has proposed to give away 11 percent cash dividend from the profit generated in the fiscal year 2011/12, says a statement issued by the bank. The proposal, which has already been endorsed by the bank´s board of directors, will now be forwarded to Nepal Rastra Bank for approval. The proposal will then have to be approved by the bank´s annual general meeting.
The bank, which has a paid-up capital of Rs 320 million, had given away 10 percent cash dividend in the fiscal year 2010/11, reads the statement. The bank collected deposits of Rs 2.77 billion and extended loans of Rs 2.41 billion till the first half of the current fiscal year to mid-January. The bank generated an operating profit of Rs 52.3 million during the period.
Coca-Cola partners with environmentalist Swan
KATHMANDU: Coca-Cola Nepal has partnered with renowned environmentalist Robert Swan´s expedition to Antarctica, which helps create awareness on climate change, a press statement of the company said. Swati Lohia, a member from Coca-Cola SABCO, has been chosen as part of an international team of volunteers to Antarctica. The expedition called the Inspire Antarctica Expedition 2013 is scheduled to commence on February 28 and will last till March 13, 2013.
A special send-off reception for Swati Lohia was held at Nepal Tourism Board premises on Tuesday; the statement said. At the program, secretary at the Ministry of Industry Krishna Gyawali handed over the national flag for Swati to take with her to Antarctica. "The Coca-Cola Company places a strong emphasis on being a sustainable business in the countries in which it operates," the statement added.
Shankar Lal Kedia Memorial Award given away
KATHMANDU: Shankar Lal Kedia Foundation, a social service organization established in the name of industrialist Shankar Lal Kedia, has awarded Rewati Raman Khanal with Late Shankar Lal Kedia Memorial Award amid a ceremony in the capital on Tuesday. A press statement of the foundation said the award was provided in recongition of Khanal´s contribution to the legal sector through newspaper articles and columns.
The award carries a purse of Rs 100,001. Likewise, chief guest of the program Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi also felicitated constitutional expert Bhimarajun Acharya at the ceremony. The foundation has been awarding pepole making significant contribution in law and justice sector.
Jungle Safari Lodge adds conference hall
KATHMANDU: Sauraha-based Jungle Safari Lodge has built a conference hall in its premises. Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, the lodge said the conference hall features modern sound system, 24 hour power back up system along with necessary amenities to conduct a seminar, meeting or workshop. “ As the number of seminar groups is increasing in Sauraha, we felt the need of a modern conference hall,” Suman Ghimire, managing director of the lodege, said in the statement.
According to Ghimire, number of NGOs, financial institutions and corporate houses are choosing Sauraha for residential seminar in recent years. Along with the conference hall, the lodge has also added 15 rooms. With this, the total of rooms in the lodge has reached 35. As an introductory offer, the lodge is giving residential package at Rs 2,200 per person per night.
