Locals see rafting potential in Sani Bheri

KAMAL THAPA

RUKUM, Feb 27: A week-long study has shown rafting services can be operated in the Sani Bheri river of Rukum. Local tourism entrepreneurs are exited about the possibility of operating rafting services in the river.

Local tourist entrepreneurs Man Bahadur Khatri, Anil BM and Amit Pariyar had financed the study spending around Rs 5.5 million. They were financially supported by Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rukum.

Talking to Republica, the entrepreneurs believe operation of rafting services in the district would attract both domestic and international tourists.

Secretary of Rukum District Tourist Development Committee Chintamani Dahal said they would support the initiative after operators get permission from the Nepal Tourism Board.

Inspired by the move, other businessmen have shown interest in exploring possibility of investment in rock climbing and canoeing in the district.

“This is the first time adventure sports have been promoted in the district and I am pretty hopeful that this will establish Rukum as a tourist destination,” said Dahal.
