Talking to the media after the announcement of result, Koirala said, “This is not only my victory alone but also the victory of the party, all its members and the democracy.”
On the occasion, Koirala pledged to move ahead in the party with unity and teamwork in the future. “We will move ahead through teamwork, co-operation and consensus in the party which would strengthen the party unity,” Koirala added.
The electric voting machine was used for voting. The voting process was briefly interrupted due to technical glitch.
Koirala and Deuba competed for the post of PP leader after the Day-long efforts to choose a consensus candidate for the post didn´t yield any result until late evening on Saturday.
The talks couldn´t reach any conclusion as Deuba faction demanded that he be offered the post of acting party chief as long as party president Koirala remains in the prime minister´s office.
NC President Sushil Koirala and senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba had filed their candidacies for the post of PP leader, on Saturday.
