NC-UML meet ends, UML to support NC-led consensus govt

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: The Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, top two largest parties in the new Constituent Assembly (CA), held talks on the issue of new government formation, on Monday.

During the two-party meeting held at CA building, New Baneshwor, NC formally proposed the UML for support to the new government to be formed under its leadership.

Emerging from the meeting, UML leader Bamdev Gautam said that  UML pledged its support for the NC-led consensus government in the meeting.

According to him, UML will formally take the decision in line with the NC’s request through a Standing Committee meeting.

UML´s SC meeting has been scheduled at 3 pm for Tuesday.

Talking to the reporters after the meeting, NC President Sushil Koirala said that his party would left no stone unturned to forge consensus on the issue of new government formation.

NC leader Minendra Raijal said that his party held talks with the UML in line with the president Dr Ram Baran Yadav´s call to form a consensus government.

"We proposed the the second largest party in the CA for support on formation of NC-led consensus government and UML is quite positive towards it," Rijal added.

NC initiated the meeting following a seven-day deadline issued by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav for the parties on Monday  to form a new government through consensus.
