KATHMANDU, Jan 28.: The UCPN (Maoist) on Tuesday unanimously picked Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the party´s parliamentary party (PP) leader.

A meeting of the party´s office bearers held at Dahal´s residence, Lazimpat on Tuesday evening also decided to hold the party´s national convention in April.

Following disputes over the proposal to name party senior leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara party as the PP leader, the office bearers of the party unanimously picked Dahal. The party would pick the name of deputy-leader and chief whip later after the central committee meeting of the party. “We have decided to put in all our efforts to ensure that the new constitution is promulgated within a one-year timeframe. So we decided to pick Dahal has the parliamentary party leader,” Giriraj Mani Pokhrel told Republica.

UCPN (Maoist) office bearers also decided to hold national convention in April instead of convention of party organization to settle party dispute. Dissident leaders Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha have demanded a national convention to introduce reforms in the party organization.

Party Chairman Dahal would table his political paper at the party´s central committee (CC) meeting on Wednesday morning. Dahal´s paper would also propose downsizing the party´s central committee as per the mandate of party´s seventh convention held in Hetauda.
